Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Gladys Boss Shollei now wants retired President Uhuru Kenyatta to write a letter to Inspector General of Japhet Koome over his security.
Speaking on Monday, February 6, Gladys noted that it was wrong for politicians to speculate about Kenyatta's security which has been scaled down but said IG Koome should be contacted to explain the regulation that was applied.
The Deputy speaker advised Kenyatta to reach out to the Inspector General of Police regarding the security officers he has been given and what he's entitled to.
"Let retired President Uhuru himself write a letter to the Inspector General of police and ask for the security he’s entitled to, then action will be taken," she said.

Inspector General of Japhet Koome admitted to making some key changes in the security detail of former president Uhuru Kenyatta.
"An officer who was of the rank of an assistant Inspector General was with the retired president. So how do you expect an assistant Inspector General to report to another assistant Inspector General?
"There is no politics at play when it comes to the security of VIPs. We are a responsible police service and we would not like to be dragged into politics because we are an independent office," Koome stated.
The former president's security was scaled down from 119 to 20.
According to the Presidential Retirement Benefits Act, a retired president is entitled to guards for personal and escort units, as well as ‘adequate security’ at rural and urban residences.
