Residents to Chuka, Tharaka Nithi county, are up in arms after a prominent member of the local boda boda succumbed to gunshot injury.
Governor Muthomi Njuki joined the members of the public in condemning the atrocity.
Willis Kiraku was allegedly shot on Saturday as police strived to disperse demonstrators who had taken to the streets to protest the killing of a local.
To inform the demonstrations were reports that the suspected killers, who the deceased revealed before dying, had been released from police custody.
The protests got out of hand as property were almost destroyed and transport in the busy Chuka-Embu Highway paralysed; this prompted the police to intervene.

Kiraku, the chairman of the TNC boda boda group died in the melee.
There are however conflicting reports as to how he met his tragic end.
While it is believed that he was hit by a bullet, some quarters have alleged that the police released a teargas canister that hit him on the face, killing him instantly.
Governor Njuki was angered by the brute exercised by the police as they took on the demonstrators.
"If only it was a natural death, it would be easy for us to find peace but the police who are responsible for protecting our lives and property have once more turned against us," said Njuki.
He called on the authorities to begin probe on the officer who opened the fire and bring them to justice.
"One bullet couldn’t have been fired by more than one gun. Let the officer responsible be found and justice served," he said.
