Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stated that many supermarkets across the country are selling two kilograms of maize flour at Ksh 159.
Speaking on Wednesday, April 19, in Mombasa Gachagua said that the Kenya Kwanza government has managed to lower the maize flour prices without any subsidy.
“When we came in the cost of unga was Ksh230, we have progressively through good thinking and planning without any subsidy brought the cost down.
"As we talk today there are many supermarkets offering unga at Ksh 159 up to Ksh 155,” said Gachagua.

The Second in Command also expressed confidence that the price will drop up to Ksh 120 after the harvesting season in September.
“It will continue going down awaiting the harvest in September and after the harvest because of the interventions we have done to assist our farmers with subsised fertilizer. We intend and we believe we will be able to bring down the cost of unga to about Ksh 120,” he added.
This comes amid reports that the price of maize flour was still retailing between Ksh 189 and Ksh 231 in various supermarkets and retail shops.
State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed had on Monday announced that the prices had dropped to Ksh 159 and Ksh 160 depending on the millers.
"Unga prices have started going down just as President William Ruto had assured Kenyans over the weekend. Prices have dropped to Ksh159 and Ksh 160, depending on the millers. When the President assumed office last year, a 2kg packet was retailing at approximately Ksh230," he stated.
