Joseph Chenge of Jerusalem Mowar Church was arrested on Wednesday in Ruri village, Suba North constituency.

A Homa Bay party pastor who demanded to meet President William Ruto within 21 days so that he can reveal a prophecy to him has been arrested.

Joseph Chenge of Jerusalem Mowar Church was arrested on Wednesday in Ruri village, Suba North constituency.

Also arrested are 11 people who were at the house of worship managed by Chenge. Among the 11 are six pastors and five people who were staying in the church for worship.

Homa Bay Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer Abed Kavoo has confirmed the arrest.

He said they are holding Chenge for promoting questionable religious teachings.

Kavoo said their preliminary investigations revealed that the cleric was holding hostage sick people for prayers instead of taking them to seek medication.

"Sick people with different diseases are detained at his church in the name of being prayed for. Some have been at the church for more than three months,” Kavoo said.

"Some were found in a deplorable state. We suspect they were being offered prayers which changed their normal thinking," he added.

Kavoo also said the preacher breached the law since his church is not registered.

"The church is not registered. He also detains patients for healing purposes yet he is not a medic, something which predisposes their lives to risks,” Kavoo said.

Chenge had become a sensation on social media after he asked to meet President Ruto so that he can reveal a prophecy to him.

He warned that something unfortunate might happen in the country in the event he fails to meet the president within the stipulated time.

“Get time we sit together so I explain for you prophesy by God. We’ll pray together thereafter so as to get intervention,” Chenge said.
