Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu on Sunday collapsed at his home and was rushed to a hospital where he is receiving treatment, his lawyer on Monday told the court.
This is after he failed o appear in court for the hearing of his Sh588 million graft case facing him.
Lawyer John Swaka told Magistrate Thomas Nzioki that his client, Waititu, was admitted to the hospital hence he could not avail himself for the hearing of the case.
“We are not ready to proceed. I received bad news informing me that my client collapsed yesterday (Sunday) and was rushed to Aga Khan where he is admitted,” Swaka told the court.
Waititu's spouse Susan could not also appear in court as the lawyer said she is taking care of her husband in the hospital.
Susan is also charged in the Sh588 graft case.
“Therefore we will not be able to proceed with the hearing today,” he said
According to the advocate, information regarding the health status of his client was received Monday morning.
As such, he was not in a position to provide medical records to prove his statements.
The court adjourned on Monday and will convene on Tuesday during which the Lawyer will be required to produce medical documents of his client.
The prosecution is remaining with two more witnesses before it closes the Sh588 million graft case facing Waititu and others.
The two are a document examiner and an investigating officer.
So far, 27 witnesses have testified in the case.
