Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has requested Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga to call off the anti-government protests slated for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week.
In a statement on Tuesday, July 18, Murkomen said that the former Prime Minister should instead channel his issues using the bi-partisan parliamentary talks.
“It is still my prayer and considered opinion that Hon Raila Odinga should use his influence to call off the planned mass action. He has the ability and responsibility to do so. There is no reason why we shouldn’t resume the Parliamentary talks,” said Murkomen.
The Transport CS also noted that those in the Kenya Kwanza government support the parliamentary talks proposed by President William Ruto.
“President Ruto offered dialogue as a solution and those of us in government supported his proposal a hundred percent without exception. I urge our Azimio friends to be mindful of the nation and resume the talks,” he added.

Murkomen’s statement comes after the Azimio la Umoja coalition announced that the anti-government protests will go on as planned.
Addressing the media at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation in Nairobi on Tuesday, Narc Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua said the opposition will not be intimidated after the government withdrew their security.
“The withdrawal of security and the campaign of intimidation notwithstanding, Azimio confirms that the protests planned for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday next week are on as earlier announced,” Karua stated.
She asked Azimio supporters to turn out in large numbers and arm themselves with Sufurias as a show of the unbearable cost of living. Karua also asked motorists who will be plying various routes in Nairobi to hoot regularly as a show of solidarity with planned demos.
