Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has called on National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula to have Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya’s bodyguards disarmed.
Speaking on Sunday, November 12, Barasa claimed that the first-term MP used his security to threaten people.
“Mr. Speaker, I want through your office those security officers of honorable Peter Salasya, I want them to be disarmed this morning because there is no way you will come with your security and start threatening people and shooting at a church fundraising,” said Barasa.
The ODM Governor went on to castigate Mumias East locals for electing Salasya saying he did not have the capacity to handle the event.
“The people of Mumias East made a big mistake electing this guy who does not understand himself. This was his first time attending such an event,” Barasa added.

Barasa’s remarks came after goons roughed up Salasya while he was making his speech at the event. The DAP-K MP had claimed that the Kakamega Governor was not lobbying for the revival of Mumias Sugar Company.
Salasya was whisked away to safety by his security detail after the scuffle brought the fundraising to a standstill.
In a statement after the incident, Salasya thanked his security for ensuring that he was not armed during the scuffle.
"The goons of this Governor of Kakamega Fernandes Barasa attacked me so innocently while addressing residents of Mumias West, but thank you my tight security for ensuring no one moves closer to me to attack me,” said Salasya
“I will always say at it is, Mumias Sugar must run without the Governor's Interference.”
