The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has warned Kenyans against a scam targeting members of the public seeking driving school-related services.

In an update on Wednesday, September 9, the authority said a poster circulating among the public is not associated with NTSA and is part of a scam. 

NTSA has also clarified that it has not contracted any individual or organisation to act as its agent in providing driving school services.

The authority further warned that it does not operate any driving school. 

NTSA said anyone claiming to offer driver training, operate a driving school, or issue driving licences on its behalf is misleading the public.

Members of the public who encounter individuals making such claims have been advised to report the matter to the nearest police station.

NTSA clarified that its mandate includes licensing driving schools, testing learner drivers and issuing driving licences.

The authority said driving school-related services should be applied for and processed through its service portal, which is accessible via the eCitizen platform.

NTSA also provided the applicable fees for driving school-related services, with a Provisional Driving Licence (DL) costing Ksh650, test booking costing Ksh1,050, an Interim DL costing Ksh750, and a Smart DL costing Ksh3,050.

NTSA cautioned members of the public against sharing their personal information with individuals claiming to represent the authority.

"Never share your personal information with anyone. If you come across a suspicious account claiming to belong to NTSA, do not engage. Block it and report it immediately," the authority said.

This comes days after NTSA issued a scam alert after fraudsters were identified using a fake website and phone numbers to target motorists and members of the public. 

In a notice on Thursday, September 3, the authority urged motorists to remain vigilant and avoid suspicious links or websites that may falsely present themselves as official government service platforms. 

NTSA said fraudsters are exploiting the domain govpenalize.eu.cc/ken in their schemes. The phone numbers +254 731500713 and +254 754981677 have also been associated with the scam. 

The authority has advised members of the public to report any suspicious links or websites and to use only its authorised platforms when accessing its services.

NTSA's official website is ntsa.go.ke, while its services are available through the eCitizen service portal at serviceportal.ntsa.go.ke or directly through an individual's eCitizen account.
