The Voi River burst was aggravated by the ongoing heavy El Nino rains across the country.
This comes days after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki announced that over 50,000 people will be affected should the ongoing rains continue.
Kindiki disclosed that the government will start evacuating people living near Masinga, Kamburu, Kindaruma, Gitaru, and Kiambere Dams urging them to adhere to the directives which may be ordering them to vacate their homes to avert deaths.
“We will issue alerts and notices, and once that is done, evacuation will not be negotiable. We have lost 142 lives, and we cannot wait to lose more. You must cooperate with government officers because they have been sent to ensure your safety,” said Kindiki.
