President Uhuru Kenyatta has responded to Chief Justice David Maraga's advisory to dissolve Parliament over its failure to enact a law on gender balance.
On Thursday President Kenyatta stated that he has no intention of dissolving Parliament a move which could have left 418 lawmakers including 349 at the National Assembly and 67 in the Senate, jobless.
CJ Maraga had issued the advisory due to six petitions that had called for the House dissolution, citing its several failed attempts to enact the Gender Bill despite four court orders.
Maraga's Take
"It is incontestable that Parliament has not complied with the High Court order, As such, for over 9 years now, Parliament has not enacted the legislation required to implement the two-thirds gender rule," the CJ's statement read in part.

The CJ said the Parliament has blatantly failed, refused or neglected to pass crucial law since August 2010 when the Constitution was promulgated.
CJ Maraga said the 10th Parliament held that it did not have enough time to enact the Bill and sought the extension by a year. The Supreme Court directed that they pass the legislation by August 27, 2015.
