In a statement via X on Tuesday, July 23, Tuya thanked President William Ruto noting that she would give it her all if approved by parliament.

"Eternally grateful to God for His favour. I thank President William Ruto for nominating me to serve as Cabinet Secretary of Defence. Upon confirmation, I will give it my all, in service to the people of Kenya,'' she stated.

“I am grateful to President William Ruto for reassigning me from the Defence Ministry to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry.

“I look forward to serving in my new portfolio and ensuring focus is on sustainable environmental management, combating climate change, and promoting reforestation and conservation efforts,” said Duale.

On July 19, President Ruto nominated the first batch of 11 Cabinet Secretaries in the new government of national unity.

The Head of State retained 6 CSs who served in the recently dismissed cabinet and appointed 5 new ones.

Besides, Duale and Tuya, President Ruto retained Kithure Kindiki (Ministry of Interior), Davis Chirchir (Ministry of Transport and Roads), and Alice Wahome (Lands and Public Works).

The National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has forwarded the CS nominations to the committee on appointments for vetting and consideration.

“It is therefore imperative that the committee on appointments immediately commences the process of consideration of the nominees. The committee is expected to immediately notify the nominees and the general public, commence the necessary approval hearings and table its report in the house soonest,” Wetang’ula said on Tuesday.
