The High Court has directed the impeachment motion against Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza to be referred to the Njuri Ncheke Council of Elders.
In a directive on Monday, July 29, Justice Linus Kassan of the Meru High Court said the Njuri Njeke should submit their resolution on Mwangaza’s impeachment within three weeks.
“That Njuri Njeke Supreme Council Of Ameru Elders are hereby ordered to submit their resolution or lack of it on the dispute between the parties herein as directed by the President of the Republic of Kenya not later than three weeks from today,” the order read.
Justice Kassan was supposed to give a ruling in the impeachment case on Monday but postponed it to August 20, 2024, to give room for alternative dispute resolution.
The High Court Judge further directed Meru MCAs and Governor Mwangaza to appear before the Njuri Njeke Council with their counsels on Wednesday, July 31.

“That parties herein are directed to appear before Njuri Njeke with their advocates before Wednesday the 31 day of July 2024,” Kassan ordered.
The court directives come after Nominated MCA Zipporah Kinya has tabled an impeachment motion against Mwangaza.
She accused the Meru County boss of gross violations of the Constitution, various national and county laws, and abuse of office.
Mwangaza through his lawyer Elias Mutuma moved to court to seek orders stopping the Meru MCAs from proceeding with the impeachment motion against her.
She claimed that the impeachment motion was a political witch hunt from her detractors.
