Kenya's two-time marathon gold medallist in the Olympics, Eliud Kipchoge, flunked his third attempt to win the men's division in the Paris Olympics on Saturday, August 10.
The 39-year-old seemed to struggle behind the fast-paced group before start to slow post-19 kilometres.
He gave it up after 31 kilometres, choosing to greet the fans sideways the track before he was picked up by a van.
Meanwhile, Ethiopia's Tamirat Tola took the lead, edging over the pack that trailed him, albeit struggling with the terrain of the Forêt Domaniale de Meudon through which they would return to Paris.
The Ethiopian made it to the end with a 2:06:26, beating his trailers seconds apart.
