Kenya Power also detailed how it will be funding the activities of the foundation.

Kenya Power on Tuesday, September 17 launched its foundation that will be tasked with running its Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) initiatives.

In a statement, the power utility firm revealed that the foundation will mostly focus on three key areas which include Energy and Environment, Education and Skills Development and finally Social Investment and Community Wellness.

Senior management of the company detailed that the company had been engaged in several initiatives aimed at uplifting society in recent years.

Therefore, having a foundation will help them to continue undertaking the initiatives efficiently as they connect with the communities they serve.

Some of the initiatives listed include scholarships for students, and planting trees among others.

"In the last 10 years, Kenya Power has awarded over 30 full scholarships to bright but needy students from various communities. The Company has also contributed to the building and equipping of more than 60 schools to enhance learning environments," read the statement in part.

"Further, the Company has planted over 600,000 trees, renovated various sports fields, and supported numerous sporting activities, among other initiatives as part of its social responsibility projects."

Regarding the financing of the foundation, Kenya Power noted that it will be channelling 1 per cent of its after-tax profit to the initiatives.

The foundation will also be open to receiving donations from Kenyans, organisations and other well-wishers.

"We recognize that as a business, our success is linked to the well-being of the communities we serve. The Foundation will allow us to consolidate and scale the impact of our corporate social initiatives, ensuring that we empower people and create long-term social value," Kenya Power's CEO Joseph Siror explained.

Logan Hambrick will serve as the patron of the foundation.
