Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed claims that he demanded Ksh8 billion from President William Ruto during one of their meetings.
Speaking during an interview on Sunday evening, September 29, Gachagua further noted that he did not bang the table as the reports alleged.
The deputy president claimed that he was not interested in money, adding that if he wanted money he could have gotten it from the previous government, which he said often pursued him.
"I have no interest in any benefits. Today, I saw a local daily claiming that I banged the president's table demanding eight billion shillings. I have no need for money. If I wanted money from the government, I would have gotten it from the previous administration because I was being pursued every day and pressured to abandon President William Ruto and join the other side," Gachagua remarked.
At the same time, he said he did not have many needs and was not greedy, claiming that he put people's interests first.

"I am not greedy for money, I don't have many needs, my children are grown, and my wife is a pastor. I am done with having and raising children. I do not prioritize money. I am a person who puts the interests of the people first," Gachagua stated.
His response comes after reports that his demand for the money is among the allegations in an impeachment motion being planned against him.
Speculations have been rife that the motion could be tabled before Parliament any time soon after being backed by several Members of Parliament.
Reacting to the speculations, Gachagua claimed that he was unfazed, asserting that only the people have the power to remove him from his position.
