The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has cautioned the Senate over the handling of the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking to the press on Monday, October 14, NCIC Chairperson Rev. Dr. Samuel Kobia noted that the Senate should handle the matter fairly.
According to Kobia, the matter should be handled according to the constitution, adding that it could easily lead to conflict among the public.
“As NCIC, our major concern is the way this process is shaping up. It could easily lead to conflict between the people of Mount Kenya and people from other parts of the country. We feel that the Senate in handling this matter should do it in a way that all Kenyans will feel that it has been fair and it has been done according to the law and the Constitution," Kobia stated.

His remarks come as Gachagua prepares to defend himself before the Senate plenary on Wednesday, October 16 and Thursday, October 17.
Gachagua was impeached on Tuesday last week by the National Assembly after 281 MPs voted in favour of the impeachment motion, 44 against and one abstained.
11 charges, including gross misconduct and gross violation of the constitution, have been brought against the deputy president.
Meanwhile, Chief Justice Martha Koome has appointed a three-judge bench to hear and determine a petition challenging Gachagua's impeachment.
The three-judge bench will consist of Justice Eric Ogola, Lady Justice Dr. Freda Mugambi and Justice Anthony Mrima.
