The Nairobi City County had asked the occupants of the building to vacate within 14 days.

A multi-storey building has collapsed in Kahawa West, Nairobi County. 

In photos and videos seen by Nairobileo.co.ke on Sunday, October 20, the building collapsed, causing members of the public to flee the scene.

Confirming the incident, Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris said that KDF officers were at the scene. 

"The building had been condemned by Nairobi City County officials. Disaster management team and the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) are currently on the ground," Passaris stated.

The Kenya Red Cross also confirmed that a multi-agency response team was at the scene where people are feared trapped. 

The building collapsed at Kahawa West.


"A multi-agency response team is currently responding to a building collapse in Kahawa West, Nairobi County, where people are feared trapped," the Kenya Red Cross stated.

Meanwhile, in a notice dated October 16 seen by Nairobileo.co.ke, the Nairobi City County had asked the occupants of the building to vacate within 14 days.

"You are hereby required to stop further development/occupation forthwith and remove the said development and vacate the building within a period of 14 days," read part of the notice to the owner and occupiers of the building.

The Nairobi City County stated that the building's construction lacked authorisation from the county and had been classified as dangerous.
