Sports CS Kipchumba Murkomen shared news of their nomination, further asking Kenyans to vote for the athletes.

Olympic champions Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet have been nominated for the Female Track Athlete of the Year award.

On the other hand, 800m Olympic Champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi was nominated for the Male Track Athlete of the Year award.

In an update on Monday, October 21, Sports CS Kipchumba Murkomen shared news of their nomination, further asking Kenyans to vote for the trio.

"You have had a great season this year with the highlight of your achievements being the gold medals you won for our great nation at the 2024 Paris Olympics, world records and season’s best times. Let's vote for them," the CS wrote on X.

The World Athletics Awards celebrate outstanding achievements in athletics annually.

The 2023 ceremony, held in Monaco, recognized Kipyegon and Noah Lyles as the World Athletes of the Year for their exceptional performances, including multiple world records.

The awards also include categories for rising stars, coaching achievements, and special recognitions like the Woman of the Year and Photograph of the Year.

Winners are determined through a voting process involving the World Athletics Council, its family, and public votes.

This comes a month after Kipyegon and Chebet were recognised and awarded by the American Academy of Achievement.

The duo was feted during the Dinner of the Golden Plate Award ceremony at the Lincoln Centre Plaza, New York on September 22, 2024.

President William Ruto, who attended the event, congratulated Kipyegon and Chebet, saying the tribute was in honour of their dedication to athletics.

"The extraordinary honour is a solid tribute to your hard work, talent and dedication to athletics. No doubt, it will inspire upcoming athletes and help shape our country’s sports," the President wrote on X.
