NAM regards election to its Academy as one of the most prestigious accolades in the domains of health and medicine.

This honor is bestowed upon individuals who have exhibited exceptional professional accomplishments and a steadfast dedication to service.

“This class of new members represents the most exceptional researchers and leaders in health and medicine, who have made significant breakthroughs, led the response to major public health challenges, and advanced health equity.

"Their expertise will be necessary to supporting NAM’s work to address the pressing health and scientific challenges we face today. It is my privilege to welcome these esteemed individuals to the National Academy of Medicine," NAM President Victor J. Dzau said.

According to NAM, current members elect new members through a process that acknowledges individuals who have significantly contributed to the progress of medical sciences, health care, and public health.

Following the addition of the newly elected members, the total membership of the NAM now exceeds 2,400, comprising nearly 200 international members.

NAM, established in 1970 as the Institute of Medicine, is a prestigious nonprofit organization within the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.

It advises on health and biomedical issues, emphasizing scientific integrity and public policy.

NAM conducts studies and publishes reports that influence health policies globally, aiming to improve public understanding and advance medical knowledge.
