Murkomen has called for the immediate dismissal of public servants criticizing the government or engaging in political sloganeering.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has called for the immediate dismissal of public servants who criticize the government or engage in political sloganeering.

Speaking on Tuesday, August 12, Murkomen said such behavior is illegal and unconstitutional.

“There is no chief, assistant chief, or police officer who should be caught speaking against the current government. It is illegal and unconstitutional,” he stated.

Murkomen stressed that any public servant who insults the President or participates in chants such as ‘wantam’ or refers to the Head of State as ‘Kasongo’ should not be tolerated in the public service.

“If we catch a police officer insulting the president or singing political slogans, an officer who wants to serve the government of the day, and he continues to chant ‘wantam’ or calling the president Kasongo. That public servant should be fired immediately,” he said.

The CS clarified that his remarks were not limited to the current administration but should also apply to future governments.

“I’m not saying just in this government. Even with the government coming, you cannot participate in sloganeering or politics if you choose to serve in public service," Murkomen added.

Murkomen further reminded public servants of their duty to serve the government and the people, separating their democratic rights from their job descriptions.

"When the elections come, you can vote however you want, no one will stop you, but your place right now is to understand the government of the day, policy of the day, and the implementation of said policies,” he said.

His comments come amid ongoing political tension, with some government critics accusing the administration of stifling dissent among state officers.
