The National Police Service (NPS) has said DNA samples have shown that the body recovered from Lake Yahud in Wajir County is not that of missing Della Anole Ward MCA Yussuf Hussein Ahmed.
In a press statement on Thursday, October 24, NPS said DNA samples from the body and that of the MCA's mother have not matched.
"A body suspected to be that of the MCA Hon. Yusuf Hussein, Member for Dela Ward, Wajir County, who went missing on September 13, 2024, in Makadara, Nairobi, was found floating at Lake Yahud in Wajir East Sub County on October 20, 2024. Autopsy conducted on October 21, 2024 by the Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor, in the presence of the family doctor, Dr. Daniel Zuriel, and local Members of Parliament, at Wajir County Referral Hospital Morgue, has established the cause of death to be head injury due to blunt trauma.
"Based on DNA samples from the body and the mother of the MCA, the post-mortem analysis by KEMRI and the Government Chemist have not matched, and concluded that the body is not for the said MCA. Consequently, DCI Wajir will open an inquest for the body while Makadara DCI will continue with the investigations for the MCA’s case," the statement read in part.
NPS mentioned that DCI Wajir would open an inquest for the body while Makadara DCI continues with the investigations for Yussuf's case.

Yussuf went missing on September 13, 2024, after being allegedly abducted in Nairobi's South B Estate.
His family claimed he was taken from a taxi by armed individuals, prompting them to file a High Court petition against the Inspector General of Police and the DCI, demanding his immediate production in court.
"It is illegal and unconstitutional for the IG and the DCI to treat Yusuf as a second-class citizen and subject him to inhumane and degrading treatment.
"In any event, Yusuf has an absolute right to habeas corpus and to a fair trial, therefore, he should be subjected to due process of the law other than abducting him and leaving his loved ones worrying about his whereabouts," the petition read.
Despite efforts to locate him, including visits to multiple police stations, Yussuf remains missing.
