KNEC CEO Dr David Njengere has revealed that all schools will be required to have their gates open during the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
During the distribution of exam papers in Murang'a on Tuesday, November 5, the KNEC boss stated that the gates would be open once vehicles ferrying examination papers enter the schools.
The gates will only be closed when the vehicles leave the compound with the KCSE materials.
Njengere explained that the new directive was one of the measures adopted to tame exam malpractice.

As explained by the CEO, the opening of the gates will also ease the access of the institutions to teams mandated to conduct random inspections in schools.
"We have monitoring officers going around the whole country," Njengere explained.
"We have insisted that as soon as the vehicle carrying the materials enters the school compound, the gates should remain open until the vehicles leave with the examination material. That is a simple rule to follow."
On the other hand, he indicated that no one including the invigilators and police officers would be allowed to use their phones when the exam is ongoing.
Further, the CEO cautioned schools and candidates against engaging in exam malpractice, revealing that two individuals had been arrested while impersonating candidates.
The two incidents in Kilifi and Nairobi are still under investigation.
