The Senator said the Senate Committee on Roads and Transport will be interrogating the deals following its cancellations by President William Ruto.

Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang'wa has asked whether Kenya will suffer any consequences as a result of cancelling Adani Group's deals with JKIA and Ketraco.

In a statement on Thursday, November 21, he said the Senate Committee on Roads and Transport will be interrogating the deals following its cancellations by President William Ruto.

Karungo who serves as the committee's chairperson said they will be seeking to establish if Kenya lost any money as a result of cancelling the deals.

"Now that the Adani deals (JKIA & Kentraco) have been cancelled, the pressing question is: has Kenya incurred any financial losses as a result, and if so, how much? More importantly, who will be held accountable for these losses?

"As the Senate Chairperson on Roads and Transportation, I assure you that this will be our next focus. We will thoroughly interrogate this matter and report our findings to the public," Karungo wrote on X.

This comes after Wiper Democratic Movement party leader Kalonzo Musyoka demanded the cancellation of the deal between Adani and the Social Health Authority (SHA).

He said that President William Ruto's decision to cancel Adani's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (Ketraco) deals is not enough.

"It is not enough to cancel the Adani Group deals in JKIA and Ketraco; Adani is also in SHA/SHIF. Ruto should also cancel this daily immediately," he stated.

Ruto ordered the cancellation of the Adani-JKIA expansion deal as well as the Adani-Ketraco deal while issuing the State of the Nation Address in Parliament.

The president explained that the new orders were informed by new information regarding the integrity of the Indian company.

"I have stated in the past, and I reiterate today, that in the face of undisputed evidence or credible information on corruption, I will not hesitate to take decisive action. Accordingly, I now direct - in furtherance of the principles enshrined in Article 10 of the Constitution on transparency and accountability, and based on new information provided by our investigative agencies and partner nations - that the procuring agencies within the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum immediately cancel the ongoing procurement process for the JKIA Expansion Public Private Partnership transaction, as well as the recently concluded KETRACO transmission line Public Private Partnership contract," he said.
