Embu University has emerged as the best university in Kenya in the latest ranking unveiled by Time Higher Education.

In the Sub-Saharan Africa University Rankings 2024 report published on Wednesday, November 27, Embu University was ranked 16th in the region with a score of 67.7.

Strathmore University emerged as the second-best university in Kenya and 29th in Sub-Saharan Africa. The university had a score of 61.7.

The rankings were based on a survey that was conducted among the students of the respective institutions.

"The Sub-Saharan Africa University Rankings 2024 use carefully calibrated indicators to provide comprehensive and balanced comparisons across three vital areas: teaching, research and societal impact." read the report in part.

"The methodology has 20 metrics, which are grouped into five pillars: resources and finance; access and fairness; student engagement; ethical leadership; and Africa impact."

Mount Kenya University (NKU) and United States International University (USIU) took 3rd and 4th place respectively in Kenya.

Kibabii University in Bungoma County was ranked as the 5th best institution of higher learning in Kenya followed by Murang'a University of Technology.

Kabarak University emerged as the 7th best university in Kenya while Karatina University took position 8.

University of Nairobi (UoN) emerged as the 9th best university in Kenya with a score of 53.2. Kabianga University took the 10th position.
