Nurses who went on strike in Taita-Taveta County have been evicted from the government staff quarters after a two-week notice to vacate expired.
The count government targeted nurses that are part of over 400 medical workers who went on strike in December 2020.
On Wednesday morning, county enforcement officers swooped in the houses of medical staff and their families to evict them.
They went from house to house throwing out all household items from the quarters.
In addition, the evictors padlocked the vacant houses to prevent owners from coming back with the houses whose owners were absent locked to deny them access.

A similar operation was undertaken simultaneously in all the sub-counties of Voi, Mwatate, Wundanyi and Taveta sub-counties.
In Voi, the evicted medical staff were stranded as they frantically made plans to move into new residences.
Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) in December 20202 advised its members to stay put as their strike over poor working conditions continued.
Even though the union had a sitting with the Ministry of Health and reached an agreement on December 31, 2020, the government’s commitment in signing is the missing link in the stalemate that has crippled the health sector.
Leaders of KNUN accused political leaders of brazen indifference to the healthcare sector.
