“There is one person moving around every part of the country saying that he is uniting the nation."

Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has taken a swipe at President William Ruto over his nationwide tours.

Speaking to the press on Wednesday, January 22, at the Wiper headquarters in Nairobi, Kalonzo asserted that President Ruto was formulating his re-election campaign strategy under the guise of uniting the nation.

The former vice president further said that there was no need for the head of state to unite the country, claiming that the nation was united as never before to dethrone him in the next polls.

“There is one person moving around every part of the country saying that he is uniting the nation. We want to tell President William Ruto that there is no need of talking about unifying the country around the broad-based government.

"It’s now official that what Ruto is trying to do is to formulate his re-election campaign strategy. We want to tell him that the country is so united more than ever before around one goal; to defeat Ruto in the next elections,” Kalonzo remarked.

The former vice president spoke even as the head of state is on a development tour in the Western region.

Speaking in Luanda, Vihiga County, on Wednesday, President Ruto defended his move to form a broad-based government, maintaining that he wanted to unite the country.

“You know we had factions but because of patriotism and unity of the nation, I and other leaders led by Raila Odinga agreed that we do not want divisive politics. We want to be united so that we speed up development in the nation.

He added, “That is why we agreed to form the broad-based government. I appointed cabinet secretaries from different party so that we unite and put matters of development at the front.”
