Kairo had opened the account to raise money from investors amid financial challenges facing his business.

Car dealer Khalif Kairo has attributed the closure of the WeFunder account to the ongoing legal issues facing him and his company.

In a statement dated Wednesday, January 29, the businessman revealed that he had raised slightly over Ksh12 million before the closure.

Kairo had opened the account to raise money from investors amid financial challenges facing his business.

"Due to these legal issues, our Wefunder campaign was shut down last night after crossing the USD 100,000 mark," he explained.

"All is not lost however, I am directly appealing to my supporters, friends, old clients and associates to chip in whatever amount they can and give us a fighting chance against the unknown forces that are sabotaging my company."

Regarding his re-arrest, he detailed that he was arrested by police over a business deal of a car.

In recent months, the businessman has come under scrutiny after some customers lamented that vehicles bought through his company were not delivered.

"Jana (yesterday) after attending a mention at Milimani law courts, I was re-arrested and held in Parklands police station overnight on another matter," read the statement in part.

"We have tried everything in our ability to resolve this issue amicably, and sure we do deliveries but the negative media publicity and constant police involvement are putting us in deeper waters and severely affecting our ability to operate. All our offices are currently closed."

Kairo added that he was scheduled to be taken to Milimani Law Courts for plea-taking.
