Sonko had tried reaching out to Sakaja via phone but the latter was not picking up calls.

Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has blasted the current county boss Johnson Sakaja for allegedly absconding from his duties.

Sonko was protesting on behalf of a female hawker who the city's inspectorate officers apprehended and took her child.

The child was locked inside the officers' vehicle prompting the woman to cause a scene.

Sonko revealed he reached out to Sakaja but the latter could not be found on the phone.

The former county boss blasted Sakaja for not being readily available to address such important matters as the woman and her child's maltreatment at the hands of the inspectorate officers.

"Mr Governor, you have not been picking up calls from yesterday. Go to parties but work for the people at the same time. This nonsense must stop with immediate effect," Sonko fired at Sakaja via X.

Meanwhile, Sonko recently took it upon himself to support a 3-year-old boy, Baby James, whose father was brutally stabbed to death in Mathare slums.

Thirty-two-year-old Michael Oworo was fatally stabbed while escorting his son to a daycare centre.

The single father and construction worker had been raising his son alone since the child was three months old.

In a statement on Saturday, January 25, Sonko expressed gratitude for the opportunity to care for the child, referring to him as a new addition to his family.

He also praised the efforts of various local leaders and community members who have supported Baby James since the tragedy.

"I thank God for blessing me with another son. Baby James, the child whose father was stabbed to death by thugs as he helplessly watched on a Monday morning in Mathare area 4 while taking him to school, will now be part of my family," he said.

Recognizing the trauma the child has endured, Sonko pledged to provide professional counselling for his healing, adding that he would continue his education at a new school of his choice.

"Since the kid is traumatised, I will engage the services of a professional therapist for his healing journey and thereafter, he will continue with his education at a different school of my choice. May God comfort and protect him during this difficult period he's undergoing as he mourns his only parent. May the Lord rest his deceased father's soul in everlasting peace," he added.
