President William Ruto has stated that the abduction of 5 chiefs in Mandera County by suspected terror militants was meant to disrupt his planned trip to the northern part of Kenya.

Speaking in Mandera County on Tuesday, January 4, Ruto described the abduction as cowardly acts which will be met with the full force of the law.

He asserted that he was going to stay in Mandera for the night, expressing that he was not scared by the threat posed.

"These people thought that I would not come if they did what they did yesterday. I have not only come to Mandera but I am also going to sleep here. If I want I can also sleep here again because this is part of Kenya," he remarked.

"I want to make it clear that every part of Kenya is important and we are not going to cede an inch of our country to criminals and those who want to unleash mayhem."

On the other hand, he directed the National Police Service (NPS) through the Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli to ensure that the incident was investigated and the chiefs released.

Further, he cautioned that the government would go after those who were engaging in terrorist activities given the recent milestones achieved in the security of the country.

"We will go after them, we will deal with them and we will eliminate them," the Head of State threatened.

The abduction of the five chiefs took place on Monday, February 3 in Elwak, Mandera County.
