This is the second time within a month that KNH is experiencing system challenges affecting Social Health Authority (SHA) services.

Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) experienced a brief system downtime earlier Tuesday, February 4, affecting critical platforms, including the e-Citizen and Social Health Authority (SHA) services.

In a statement, KNH CEO Dr. Evanson Kamuri assured the public that the issue was promptly resolved, and normal operations resumed shortly afterward.

Kamuri also stated that no patients were denied services during the downtime.

Additionally, Kamuri said that measures have been put in place to ensure that all patients, particularly those undergoing dialysis and cancer treatment, continue to receive uninterrupted care in the event of future system challenges.

"I have consequently directed that all patients, particularly those on dialysis and cancer treatment, receive uninterrupted care without delay in the event of any future system challenges. Harmonization of documentation will follow once systems are fully operational," the statement read.

Kamuri also reassured the public that proactive steps are being taken to enhance system reliability and minimize the risk of future interruptions.

"I’d like to assure the public that proactive measures are being taken to enhance system reliability and minimize the likelihood of future interruptions.

"The Hospital remains committed to delivering seamless service, ensuring that all operations continue even during unforeseen disruptions," the statement concluded.

This is not the first time KNH is experiencing system challenges.

Wednesday, January 15, KNH announced the resolution of a two-day system downtime that temporarily disrupted patient services and administrative processes at the hospital.

In a statement, Kamuri reassured the public that normal operations have resumed following the alignment of the SHA system with KNH’s internal systems.

"Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) wishes to acknowledge a slight lapse in patient care today and reassure the public that the Social Health Authority (SHA) system is now fully operational and aligned with the KNH system. Normal operations have resumed, and patients are being attended to.

"The recent system downtime experienced over the last two days temporarily disrupted some services, causing delays in patient clearance and administrative processes. We deeply regret the inconvenience this may have caused to our patients and their families," the statement read.

Kamuri extended an apology for the disruptions, noting that proper arrangements have been put in place to address the backlog caused during the system downtime.

"To address the backlog caused by the downtime and expedite service delivery, additional personnel have been deployed across all affected departments with extended working hours. KNH is fully committed to ensuring that all pending cases are resolved promptly and efficiently," the statement added.
