President William Ruto held a high-level meeting with United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed at State House, Mombasa, where they discussed regional and global security issues, including conflicts in Eastern DRC, Sudan and Haiti.

In a statement on Wednesday, February 26, Ruto emphasized Kenya’s strong commitment to its partnership with the UN in fostering global peace and stability.

"Kenya values its strong partnership with the United Nations in promoting global peace, security, and sustainable development—key to addressing both global and regional challenges," he stated.

The discussions centered on the situation in Eastern DRC, where Ruto acknowledged the progress made by the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

"We reviewed the situation in Eastern DRC and the significant progress made by the EAC-SADC joint peace process, including the appointment of facilitators to guide peace efforts and subsequent measures to restore stability," he said.

According to Ruto, the ongoing conflict in Sudan was another focal point, with both leaders agreeing on the urgent need for diplomatic engagement to end the crisis.

"We also addressed the tragic conflict in Sudan and the urgent need to pursue all opportunities for dialogue and peaceful resolution," Ruto noted.

The discussion also extended to the security crisis in Haiti, where Kenya is leading a Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission under the UN’s mandate.

Ruto expressed appreciation for the UN’s backing of Kenya’s role in helping restore order in the Caribbean nation.

"Additionally, we discussed the security crisis in Haiti and the UN’s support in addressing it. I expressed my gratitude for the United Nations’ commitment to assisting Kenya in leading the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission," he concluded.
