Gachagua was born on 28 February 1965 in Hiriga village, Nyeri County.

Former Second Lady Pastor Dorcas Rigathi has penned a sweet message to celebrate her husband Rigathi Gachagua’s 60th birthday.

In a statement on Friday, February 28, Pastor Dorcas described Gachagua as her best friend, great pilla, and companion.

She wished the former Deputy President a long life, protection, and happiness.

“Happiest Birthday. You are our best friend, a great pillar and companion, a wonderful husband, father, and a great leader. We love you always, May Jehovah God give you long life, protection, and happiness,” read the statement in part.

Pastor Dorcas also quoted a Bible verse (Isaiah 46:4 ) to wish her husband a long life.

“We celebrate you and on this birthday our prayer, together with Kevin and Keith is this; Isaiah 46:4 Even to your old age and gray hairs. I am he; I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you. Once again happy birthday,” she added.

Gachagua was born on 28 February 1965 in Hiriga village of Nyeri County to Gachagua Reriani and Martha Kirigo.

Until 2017, very little was known of Gachagua, however, his late brother Nderitu Gachagua served as the Nyeri Governor until his death in February 2017.

In the 2017 general election, Gachagua was elected as the Member of Parliament for Mathira Constituency before being elected as Deputy President in the 2022 general election alongside President William Ruto.

However, Gachagua was impeached on October 18, 2024, after a majority of Senators upheld the impeachment done by the National Assembly.

The impeachment grounds listed in the motion tabled by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse included gross violation of the constitution and undermining the President and the Cabinet among others.
