Madaraka Express passenger train services were disrupted on Friday, February 28, following a fire incident at the Nairobi National Park.
In a report by Kenya Railways, the passenger train leaving Nairobi for Mombasa had to be delayed for 40 minutes because of the fire.
The corporation added that the delays had to be enforced to guarantee the safety of the passengers, given that the fire affected part of the line where the train runs.
"We experienced a 40-minute delay with the departure of the 10.00 pm Madaraka Express Passenger Service train from Nairobi to Mombasa. This was due to a wildfire within Nairobi National Park. The fire affected the line between Nairobi Terminus and Athi River," read the statement in part.
"The Kenya Wildlife Society are currently on the ground working to contain the fire. The line was cleared, and the train departed."

Meanwhile, KWS attributed the Friday fire to the current weather conditions.
According to the statement, other parks in the country have also experienced wildfires in recent weeks due to the hot and dry weather conditions.
"Two fires erupted on Thursday. The first, near Wilson Airport along the Southern Bypass, was swiftly contained through collaboration between the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and Nairobi County Government," KWS stated.
"A second blaze in the Athi Basin Dam area, reported at 4:00 PM, remains under active containment. KWS, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), volunteers, fire engines, and water bowsers are on-site."
