The Ministry of Education has dismissed the reports that secondary schools will cease to exist for their traditional purpose beginning 2026.
Claims flew that the secondary schools would be renamed "CBC Senior Schools" and would not be categorised on academic terms.
The claimants asserted that the schools would be turned into career pathway centres aimed at preparing learners for their career goals as opposed to academic excellence.

Education PS Belio Kipsang admitted that the government was yet to complete the construction of classes set to be used this year by Grade 9 students.
On Monday, January 6, 2025, Kipsang revealed that Grade 9 students would be expected to commence the calendar year as scheduled.
He announced that school heads had been advised to come up with temporary solutions to allow the government to complete the classes within the next 30 days.
For instance, he noted that some classes would be combined in the event there is room within the other classes.
Grade 9 students will also be allowed to use free classes when other students go for outdoor activities such as Physical Education (PE).
The education system is transitioning from the 8-4-4 to the Competency-Based curriculum (CBC).
The traditional system will be ending in 2027 when the last Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) will be written by the students currently in Form Two.
