The lawyers warned that Gachagua could be sued in court on Monday, March 10, if he fails to comply with the demands.

Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga has demanded an apology from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over bribery remarks he made at a church function in Machakos.

Speaking outside Milimani Law Court on Friday, March 7, the UDA Senator revealed that his legal team had presented a demand letter to Gachagua.

He noted that Gachagua is required to withdraw the remarks and issue an apology within 48 hours.

"We are seeking that the former DP, within 48 hours, withdraws the statement and apologizes in the same manner he made them, and then we will follow the matter to its logical conclusion," he remarked.

According to the Senator, Gachagua had defamed him by claiming that he was bribed with Ksh10 million to vote in favour of his impeachment.

He added that the remarks had damaged his reputation, stating that he received numerous calls from his family and friends over the matter.

"That statement was made when I was on an official tour in Japan. Some of the business colleagues that I had gone to meet made me aware of the same statements, and it made it impossible to interact with them," he said.

"The former DP ought to have known that the claims are not true."

Further, the lawmaker reiterated that his decision during the impeachment was based on the evidence presented. He added that he made the decision individually without being influenced by anyone.

Meanwhile, the legal team of the Senator warned that Gachagua could be sued in court on Monday, March 10, if he fails to comply with the demands.
