The Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions has pleaded with the court to bar former Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong from contesting for any elective seat for the next 10 years.
In a statement dated Wednesday, March 12, the ODPP also asked the court to issue an order barring the appointment of the former county boss to public office for 10 years.
The prosecution explained that the move was informed by the case presented against the county boss and former officials of Busia County Government.
Ojaamong and his co-accused persons had been accused of conspiring to commit an economic crime by engaging in a scheme to defraud the Busia County Government of Ksh8 million for a purported feasibility study on an integrated solid waste management project.

"The accused persons face various charges, including conspiracy to commit an economic crime, engaging in a project without prior planning, abuse of office, wilful failure to comply with laws on public funds management, fraudulently making payments from public revenue for services not rendered, fraudulent acquisition of public property, and failure to pay taxes.
"The prosecution argued that the entity paid by the Busia County Government was primarily engaged in the hardware business and lacked the necessary qualifications, capacity, experience, resources, equipment, and facilities to execute the waste management contract," read the statement in part.
The DPP also asked the court to find the accused persons guilty owing to the evidence presented.
“The evidence is clear, credible, consistent, cogent, and sufficiently strong to leave no doubt in this honorable court that the accused persons committed the offenses for which they were charged,” the DPP stated.
The court is set to issue its judgment on the case on May 16, 2025.
