Former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha has secured a new role following her nomination as Permanent Representative to the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) in Nairobi.
Her appointment was announced in a presidential action released on Thursday, March 20.
This new role will see Nakhumicha represent Kenya’s interests at UN-Habitat, the global agency responsible for sustainable urban development and human settlements.
Others nominated to various diplomatic positions include James Buyekane Muhati, who has been appointed as Consul-General in Guangzhou, People’s Republic of China and Abdi Dubat Fidhow has been named Consul-General in Arusha, United Republic of Tanzania.
On the other hand, Eng. Peter Tum has been appointed as Ambassador to Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo while Alfred Ombudo K’Ombundo will serve as Deputy Head of Mission in Brussels, Belgium.

According to the presidential action, the nominations have been transmitted to the National Assembly for consideration and approval.
Nakhumicha's nomination comes barely two weeks after Kiminini MP Maurice Kakai, speaking during the funeral service of former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson Wafula Chebukati, urged President William Ruto to consider Nakhumicha in future government appointments.
"Your Excellency, I believe that Nakhumicha was doing a very good job when she was in office. Mama Mary has said how competent, kind, and focused she was in helping the chairman. As you continue to arrange the government, remember Nakhumicha," he said
Responding to the request, Ruto acknowledged Nakhumicha's contributions to the health sector, stating that she did a commendable job during her tenure as cabinet secretary.
“I must thank two leaders, former Health CS Susan Nakhumicha who started with me and current Health CS Deborah Barasa who is helping me in that sector," he said.
