Nyandarua Senator John Methu has rejected a salary increase granted by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), calling on fellow legislators to do the same.
In a statement on Saturday, March 29, Methu announced that he would be formally declining the pay rise, stating that he had not requested it and did not wish to receive it.
"SRC has given me an increase of Ksh366,000 starting the month of April, however, I never asked for an increase from SRC.
"I don't want my salary to be increased. I will be writing an official letter to that effect and am urging all my colleagues to do the same," he declared.

Methu questioned how public officials could justify higher salaries while many citizens are struggling to make ends meet.
The senator called on all leaders who stand with the people to take a firm stand against the increase.
"How can a few of us live in opulence when millions of Kenyans are suffering? This has to stop, these games we keep playing with struggling Kenya have to stop. Any leader who is on the side of the people should come out and reject this offer," he added.
According to media reports, starting April 1, 2025, each MP will receive an additional Ksh366,011 per month as a fixed mileage allowance, supplementing their current gross salary of Ksh739,600.
This adjustment, approved by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) on March 20, 2025, is projected to cost taxpayers approximately Ksh4.4 billion until the next General Election.
