Detectives in Bomet Central have arrested a man suspected of brutally murdering 45-year-old Rachealine Rutto whose lifeless body was found in her home on Tuesday, March 25.
In a statement on Friday, April 4, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said the discovery of Rutto's body was made by her daughter.
Rutto had failed to respond to multiple phone calls throughout the day forcing her daughter to visit her home where she discovered her mother's body lying on the bed bearing deep neck wounds and multiple stab injuries.
"The discovery was made by the deceased’s daughter, who had grown increasingly anxious after repeated calls to her mother went unanswered throughout the day.
"Driven by concern, she visited her mother’s home, only to be met with a horrifying scene. Rutto's body lay on the bed in a pool of blood, bearing deep neck wounds and multiple stab injuries to her arm, chest, and back," the DCI said.

Following the harrowing discovery, authorities launched investigations which led officers to 28-year-old Wesley Cheruiyot Koech.
"Determined to unravel the mystery behind this cold-blooded crime, detectives launched an intensive probe. Through forensic trails, the suspect, 28-year-old Wesley Cheruiyot Koech, was eventually smoked out of his hideout in Sailo village, Kipkelion East Sub-County and arrested," the DCI added.
According to the investigating agency, during interrogation, Cheruiyot guided detectives to his residence where evidence was recovered.
"Upon interrogation, Cheruiyot led detectives to his abode, where several incriminating items were recovered. Among them were the suspected murder weapon, a bloodstained knife wrapped in a cloth, as well as the deceased’s ring and a mobile phone containing disturbing photographs of the body taken by the suspect after the killing," the DCI disclosed.
Investigators have since established that the motive behind the murder was a long-standing grudge Cheruiyot held against the deceased.
"It was established that the motive behind the heinous act stemmed from a long-standing grudge. Cheruiyot is said to have harbored resentment after Rutto ended their romantic relationship in 2016, choosing to move on with another man. Allegedly, Cheruiyot felt betrayed after spending money on her during their time together," the DCI explained.
The suspect remains in custody as authorities finalize their case against him before his scheduled court appearance.
