Lawyer Nelson Havi has hit back at Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome after she chided lawyers who are attacking the Judiciary.
Speaking on Wednesday, April 9, during the 2025 Annual Mediation Summit on Land, Land Use, and Climate change disputes in Kenya at the Strathmore University, CS Wahome said there is a problem when lawyers are the one who attack the Judiciary.
The Lands CS said the Judiciary should be supported, well-funded, and its independence protected.
“There is a problem when lawyers are the ones attacking the Judiciary, the two gentlemen need to reconsider their engagement with the Judiciary, we need to support the Judiciary, we need to fund the Judiciary, we need to protect the independence of the Judiciary,” said CS Wahome.
In a response, Havi questioned why she took Justice Philomena Mwilu to the Judiciary Service Commission (JSC) and lodged a memorandum to the National Assembly when she was appointed the Deputy Chief Justice yet she is against other lawyers from lodging complaints against the Judiciary.

“Hon Alice Wahome, I acted for you when you took Hon Philomena Mwilu to JSC and eventually to the vetting Board. I am aware you lodged a memorandum to the National Assembly when she was appointed DCJ. How was it right for you to do that then, and wrong for us to do it now?” Havi posed.
The former LSK president in January filed a petition with JSC seeking the removal of Supreme Court judges over allegations of gross misconduct and misbehavior.
Havi took issue with the Supreme Court's decision to bar Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi from appearing before the apex court.
However, the Supreme Court judges moved to the High Court and obtained orders blocking JSC from considering any petitions against them.
