Basic Education PS Julius Bitok has dismissed reports alleging that the government has taken disciplinary action against the Butere Girls High School principal.

In a statement by the Ministry of Education on Friday, April 11, the PS added that no action had been taken against the board of management.

Bitok was responding to social media reports that alleged that the school principal was facing disciplinary action following the drama that has emerged regarding the 'Echoes of War' play.

Reports had also alleged that the government dissolved the board of management.

"Basic Education PS Prof Julius Bitok says Ministry to undertake thorough review of events leading up to the incident around Butere Girls play.

"PS has also clarified that no disciplinary action has been taken yet against the Butere principal or the school's Board of Management. Such action will be informed by investigations," read the statement in part.

The government has come under sharp criticism following the frustrations experienced by the students in staging their play.

While the government has denied censoring the play, Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen took issue with the involvement of former UDA SG Cleophas Malala in writing the play.

"Ask yourself, as a Kenyan, how is it possible that we have reached a level where a politician has become the writer of a play for students. He is using the students for politics," the CS said.

"Even if you look down upon the government, we know that these schools have teachers. Let politicians leave the teachers do their work and leave students out of our politics."
