State Department for Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary Roseline Njogu has cautioned Kenyans about fake job offers purported to be in South Korea.
In a statement on Friday, May 9, PS Njogu said the job scams mention opportunities in Rural Plus Centres located in Haenam, Wando, Jindo, Yeongam, and Jangheung counties in South Korea’s Jeollanam-do province.
“The State Department for Diaspora Affairs alerts the public to ongoing fraudulent recruitment schemes falsely claiming to offer employment opportunities for Kenyans in the Republic of South Korea. The scam specifically mentions placements in 'Rural Plus Centres' in Haenam, Wando, Jindo, Yeongam, and Jangheung counties, Jeollanam-do province,” said Njogu.
The Diaspora Affairs PS noted that her State Department, together with the Kenya Embassy in Seoul and South Korean authorities, have investigated the job offers and confirmed they are not genuine
She highlighted that the companies named in the advertisements have also denied any involvement in recruiting Kenyan workers.

“In line with our mandate to protect Kenyans abroad, the State Department, together with the Kenya Embassy in Seoul and South Korean authorities, has thoroughly investigated the job offers and confirmed they are not genuine.
“The companies named in these advertisements have denied any involvement in recruiting Kenyan workers and clarified that they have no links to any recruitment agencies operating in Kenya,” PS Njogu stated.
She advised Kenyans against engaging with any agencies or individuals offering jobs in South Korea without proper verification.
Njogu said the job scams may expose unsuspecting Kenyans to financial loss, exploitation, human trafficking, among other serious risks.

The Kenyan Embassy in Thailand weighed in on the job scams, saying the gangs in Myanmar are spreading their networks around the globe.
“The Chinese mafia gangs in Myanmar are spreading their networks far and wide around the globe. Apart from issuing the warning, the names of the fraudulent companies should be named publicly for the public to avoid them like the plague,” the Embassy stated.
