Manyatta Member of Parliament Gitonga Mukunji has criticized Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen after he claimed that the chaos witnessed during the launch of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP)was due to a disagreement over alleged promised payments to supporters.
Speaking on Thursday, May 15, CS Murkomen said preliminary investigations indicate that the chaos was caused by supporters who expected to be paid for attending the event.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that some of the supporters were expecting to be paid, and as a result of fighting for those resources, there was a melee which led to a stampede, and some of the journalists covering the event were injured,” he said.
The Interior CS also noted that the National Police Service (NPS) had not been informed about the gathering, limiting their ability to provide adequate security.
“Our National Police Service (NPS) is carrying out proper investigations to see what happened when those political leaders were launching their party,” Murkomen added.

In a statement via X Mukunji dismissed the Interior CS's remarks on the chaos witnessed during the DCP launch.
“I have felt sad for our country watching Waziri in charge of security arrogantly and with contempt claim that the goons that wanted to disrupt the DCP Party announcement did so due to disagreement on matters payment. Let’s as a country press reset now,” the Manyatta MP stated.
On Thursday, chaos erupted at the launch of Gachagua’s party after gunshots were fired at the venue. The commotion began when a group of individuals tried to force their way into the event. In response, a man believed to be a member of Gachagua's security team fired several shots into the air in an effort to disperse the crowd.
Gachagua, in a statement, blamed the government for the incident and asked President William Ruto to come to terms with the fact that he had lost the trust and support of Kenyans.
“Stop sending goons to attack me, my family, and supporters. We have rights and freedoms to enjoy like other Kenyans. Like a gentleman, just accept that you lost the trust and support of the people and move on,” Gachagua stated.
