"We urge anyone with information regarding the the amateur video to report to their nearest police station."

The National Police Service (NPS) has issued a statement addressing a widely circulated video showing Juja MP George Koimburi allegedly abandoned at a farm in Juja after his abduction.

In a statement on Monday, May 26, NPS stated that Koimburi had been under active investigation for alleged involvement in a land fraud case.

The agency noted that the lawmaker was aware of the police's intention to arrest him, prompting him to go into hiding.

"The MP has been under investigation for a land fraud matter, and consent to prosecute was issued by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

"On Friday, 23rd May, the MP, fully aware of the police's intention to arrest him, evaded a dragnet operation, duped officers by escaping on a motorcycle alongside his private security, and switched off his mobile phone," the police said.

NPS noted that Koimburi had been missing until Monday morning when he resurfaced amid abduction claims.

According to the agency, officers from Juja Police Station visited the site where the MP was allegedly found, and the scene has since been documented.

Meanwhile, NPS said the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched a deeper probe into the matter.

"Police from Juja visited the alleged scene, and the area was properly documented. Meanwhile, a special team from DCI headquarters is analysing the purported abduction video and all circumstances surrounding these allegations to conclusively establish the truth," the statement continued.

The NPS has appealed to members of the public who may have information related to the incident to come forward.

"We urge anyone with information regarding the incident shown in the amateur video to report to their nearest police station or contact us via our toll-free numbers: 999, 911, 112, or #FichuakwaDCI (0800 722 203)," the statement concluded.

Speaking after visiting Koimburi in the hospital, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua revealed that the lawmaker was tortured by his abductors.

Gachagua also detailed that the MP could not speak and was only able to write down what had happened to him.

According to the former DP, the MP reportedly inhaled a chemical during his capture, hence his inability to speak.

Gachagua added that Koimburi has soft tissue injuries, pointing to torture by professionals.

"Some chemical was administered through inhalation, and the doctors have told us that preliminary investigations confirm that the chemical has interfered with his vocal cords," he stated.
