The Law Society of Kenya and the Police Reforms Working Group of Kenya have petitioned Parliament to summon Foreign Affairs CS Musalia Mudavadi over the torture of Boniface Mwangi in Tanzania.
In a joint statement issued on Tuesday, June 3, the groups noted that the government needed to explain actions it took to protect Mwangi during his detention.
The group also wants the MPs to question the CS on the steps the government is taking to ensure that Mwangi gets justice.
"We petition both Kenyan and Ugandan parliamentarians to summon their respective Foreign Affairs Ministers to account for the actions taken to protect their nationals and spell out the steps being taken to secure justice and compensation for the suffering and trauma experienced," read the statement in part.

"The Police Reforms Working Group shall, with others, also formally petition Members of the East African Legislative Assembly to initiate a parliamentary public hearing."
Meanwhile, the group also demanded that President Samia Suluhu's government take action against officers who tortured Mwangi and Agather Atuhaire.
"Through a brutal campaign against dissent, Tanzanian authorities have created a chilling climate of fear, silencing anyone who criticises President Samia Suluhu Hassan ahead of the October 2025 elections," the lobby groups added in their statement.
"Unless urgently addressed, this and the brutal treatment of Boniface Mwangi and Agather Atuhaire shall remain a stark indictment of violent repression and impunity under President Samia Suluhu Hassan's government, and the East African Community's silence will render it complicit."
The statement was issued a day after Mwangi claimed that he was sexually assaulted by the Tanzanian officers.
In particular, he detailed that the officers inserted objects in his private parts, adding that the ordeal has tormented him.
"They tied me upside down, and then they started beating my feet. I was screaming so hard, but there were no tears coming out because of how painful it was. One of them suggested that they put underwear in my mouth, so they did," he narrated.
"When they were abusing me, they told me to say that I was feeling good and thank their president. They told me that they had recorded the videos and threatened that they would release them if we said what happened to us."
