"We call on the security agents to ensure we do not have a repeat of the protected goons, who brought violence in the recent protests," read the statement in part.

Catholic bishops have raised concerns over goons who infiltrated protests last week, ahead of the June 23 demonstrations.

In a statement dated Tuesday, June 24, the clergy wondered why the police were protecting the goons who were deployed to cause mayhem in the city.

Consequently, the clergy demanded justice for those who were injured and killed during the recent protests.

The bishops also cautioned politicians against taking advantage of the protests for their own political mileage.

"We call on the security agents to ensure we do not have a repeat of the protected goons, who brought violence in the recent protests. How can goons work together with the police? We demand justice for all those murdered and those shot, and the conviction of all the perpetrators.

"These tragedies, on the other hand, should not be exploited by political operators to gain mileage, gathering around the mourners or victims, only to deliver personal advertisements while offering no relief or solutions," read the statement in part.

Regarding the planned Wednesday protests, the clergy urged the youth not to confront the police, as the security agencies were advised to exercise restraint.

On the other hand, the government was advised to listen to and address the concerns being raised by Kenyans, especially the young people.

"We appeal to your conscience. You are called not only to govern, but to heal, to unite, and to lead with integrity. True leadership listens. It corrects. It restores," read the statement in part.

"Open your hearts to listen to Kenyans truly. Do not let inhumanity rule our Nation. Don't be silent about the deaths of Kenyans."

The bishops also announced that time would be dedicated in the churches on the coming Sunday to remember those who lost their lives in the protests.
