Former Water Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki has joined former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).
The former CS was welcomed to the party on Tuesday, June 24, by Gachagua at the DCP party headquarters in Nairobi.
In a statement via X, the DCP party said they are honoured to have Kariuki as part of the team.
“Welcome on board, former CS Sicily Kariuki, to the DCP Party. We are honored to have you join the Party of the People, a movement that truly resonates with the grassroots and stands for all like-minded individuals committed to building a better future,” the DCP party stated.
Kariuki served as the Water CS under retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government.

She also held the Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs, and Health dockets in the previous government.
Kariuki resigned from the Cabinet in February 2022 ahead of the August 2022 general election, where she was interested in vying for the Nyandarua Gubernatorial seat.
However, she suffered a blow after the Jubilee Party picked former Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia over her.
On April 27, 2025, Kariuki announced that she would vie for the Nyandarua governor seat in the 2027 election.
“I will be running for the Nyandarua governor’s seat. That’s the one I want. And you all know it’s the one I want, and by God’s grace, we shall win it,” she announced.
Kariuki is the latest prominent figure to join Gacahgua’s camp after Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba.
