In Nairobi CBD, the streets were largely deserted, with only a handful of people seen.

The situation across the country remains relatively calm as Kenya marks the 35th anniversary of Saba Saba Day.

In Nairobi Central Business District (CBD), the streets were deserted, with only a handful of people seen around the National Archives.

Shops and businesses across the city remained with heavily armed police officers deployed to patrol the CBD.

Major roads and access routes leading to the city center were also barricaded by law enforcement officers, and motorists were forced to turn around.

In Mombasa, the situation was also calm, with many shops in the CBD closed and streets deserted.

Anti-riot police officers could be seen patrolling around along Moi Avenue and the Mombasa Mall in the Mwembe Tayari area.

The situation was similar in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, where businesses remained shut in the CBD and police officers were deployed in strategic areas across the city.

In Karatina town, Nyeri County, protestors came out in numbers and lit bonfires, blocking the Nyeri-Nairobi Highway and paralyzing transport.

A contingent of anti-riot police has been deployed to the area to calm the situation from escalating.

Youth also came out in Mwea Kirinyaga County to commemorate the Saba Saba Day. The locals lit bonfires along the road. The protests were also witnessed in Ngrurubani and Kagumo towns in Kirinyaga County.

In Kitengelea, Kajiado County, anti-riot police officers engaged in running battles with protestors who had completely blocked the Namanga highway.

The officers lobbed tear gas canisters at the demonstrators to disperse them from the busy highway. Two water cannons have also been deployed to Kitengela to help disperse the protestors.

In Nyeri town, police officers also threw teargas canisters at a group of protestors that had gathered around Kimathi Street. Traders who had opened their shops were forced to close them.

Meanwhile, in Ruaraka along Thika Road, anti-riot police dispersed a group of youths by firing warning shots and lobbing teargas canisters.
