Karua distanced herself from the violence that rocked the country, accusing ODM supporters of pre-planning and executing the atrocities.

People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has rebuked lawyer Miguna Miguna for linking her to the 2007 Post-Election Violence.

Miguna, in an interview with Citizen TV on Sunday, stated that Karua is not fit for the Presidency, accusing her of involvement in the chaos that marred the country after the 2007 elections.

“Martha Karua cannot be a choice; she was involved in the atrocities of 2007 and does not represent anything. She abused power when she was Minister of Justice; she abused power in her personal relationship with GBM Kariuki, who was a former judge,” Miguna claimed.

In a statement on her X platform, Karua distanced herself from the violence that rocked the country, accusing ODM supporters of pre-planning and executing the atrocities.

“Miguna was a key player in The ODM party in 2007 and therefore knows that the violence was preplanned and executed by The ODM party supporters. I immediately called out the ODM Party and its leadership for the violence and atrocities," Karua said.

Karua went on to exonerate herself from blame, stating that she was among those who called for the rule of law to be upheld by advising those aggrieved by the poll results to seek recourse in court rather than resorting to violence.

The former Azimio la Umoja coalition presidential running mate further condemned Miguna for spreading information she termed as malicious and false.

“Miguna is either a malicious slanderer or too lazy to verify facts before regurgitating falsehoods. Standing as Kibaki’s agent cannot, by any stretch of imagination, be equated to atrocities,” she added.

Karua also dismissed claims by Miguna that she abused power during her tenure as Justice Minister.

Karua said the matter in question related to a false statement in court by an accused on trial for assault causing grievous harm.

In the case, Karua says, there was a complainant who had injuries confirmed by a medical report, adding that she was neither a party nor a witness.

“Hate blinds Miguna that, as a lawyer, he neglects to refer to the proceedings whose records have no evidence whatsoever to back the false and malicious allegation.”

Karua further demanded that Citizen TV, which hosted Dr. Miguna Miguna on Sunday, July 13, give her a chance to defend herself against the claims made by Miguna.

“Ayub Abdikadir and Citizen TV Kenya are too liberal in airing malicious falsehoods. I demand equal airtime for rebuttal.”

Karua has announced her intention to run for the top seat in the 2027 General Elections.
