Motorists using the Thika–Garissa (A3) Road have been advised to brace for traffic disruption over the next three months as the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) embarks on maintaining a critical bridge.
In a notice dated July 19, KeNHA announced the planned closure of the Kavenge (Mbakini) Bridge near Mbakini Centre to allow for the replacement of bridge girders and deck.
The maintenance works are scheduled to begin on Saturday, July 26, 2025, and are expected to be completed by Saturday, November 8, 2025.
KeNHA also directed motorists plying the route to observe provided traffic instructions to prevent further disruptions.
“The Authority advises motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan,” the statement reads in part.

The authority further urged road users to remain alert and cooperate with traffic marshals who will be deployed to guide movement and ensure safety during the maintenance period.
The bridge is located along a key section of the A3 road, which links Thika to Garissa. It serves as a vital connection for transport and commerce in the region.
The rehabilitation of roads around the country has included both major highways and smaller roads feeding towns.

In June, KeNHA announced a 45-day traffic disruption from June 28, 2025, to August 11, at the Gitaru Interchange.
The interchange, which connects Waiyaki Way with the Southern and Western Bypasses and houses the Southwestern Loop to Southern Bypass, will allow for the construction of the Southwestern Interchange Ramp and slip roads.
Motorists were advised to use alternative routes.
